ताक़त-ए-बेदाद-ए-इंतिज़ार नहीं है

come for my life lacks patience and tranquility
doesn’t have the strength to bear waiting's cruelty

देते हैं जन्नत हयात-ए-दहर के बदले
नश्शा ब-अंदाज़ा-ए-ख़ुमार नहीं है

heaven is decreed in lieu, of a life on earth
compared to the hangover of wine there is dearth

गिर्या निकाले है तेरी बज़्म से मुझ को
हाए कि रोने पे इख़्तियार नहीं है

Tears cause my expulsion, from your company
Shame! On weeping that I have no authority

हम से अबस है गुमान-ए-रंजिश-ए-ख़ातिर
ख़ाक में उश्शाक़ की ग़ुबार नहीं है

that 'gainst you I bear grudges, you suspect in vain
know that lover's graves do not dust of doubt contain

दिल से उठा लुत्फ़-ए-जल्वा-हा-ए-मआनी
ग़ैर-ए-गुल आईना-ए-बहार नहीं है

with your heart you should absorb, beauty of meaning
save the flower no mirror is for the fact of spring

क़त्ल का मेरे किया है अहद तो बारे
वाए अगर अहद उस्तुवार नहीं है

you have promised to slay me, I am joyful, glad
if your promise is infirm, 'twill be truly sad

तू ने क़सम मय-कशी की खाई है 'ग़ालिब'
तेरी क़सम का कुछ ए'तिबार नहीं है

Gaalib as you swear an oath by your drunkenness
Your oath's thus beyond belief, I have to confess
