wada-e-waslat se dil ho shad kya
tum se dushman ki mubarakbaad kya

why should vows of union now enthuse?
compliments from foes like you, what use?

kuchh qafas mein in dinon lagta hai ji
aashiyan apna hua barbaad kya

being caged now-a-days is easeful rest
is it that someone has destroyed my nest?

nala-e-paiham se yan fursat nahin
hazrat-e-naseh karen irshad kya

there is no leisure from constant lament
O preacher what account can I present

hain asir us ke jo hai apna asir
hum na samjhe said kya sayyaad kya

when imprisoned by my prisoner then
who is captor, captive's hard to ken

shoKH-bazari thi shirin bhi magar
warna farq-e-KHusrau-o-farhad kya

nashsha-e-ulfat se bhule yar ko
sach hai aisi be-KHudi mein yaad kya

love's headiness made me forget her too
in stupor nought can one recall it's true

nala ek dam mein uDa Dale dhuen
charKH kya aur charKH ki buniyaad kya

a plaintive cry of mine will vaporize
the very foundations of lofty skies

jab mujhe ranj-e-dil-azari na ho
bewafa phir hasil-e-bedad kya

torture's not a source of pain to me
O faithless one why then this cruelty

panw tak pahunchi wo zulf-e-KHam-ba-KHam
sarw ko ab bandhiye aazad kya

curling tresses reach her feet you see
can the cypress now held to be free?

kya karun allah sab hain be-asar
walwala kya nala kya fariyaad kya

Lord! what can I do? Of no avail
is to weep or vent or even wail

in nasibon par kiya aKHtar-shanas
aasman bhi hai sitam-ijad kya

just in counting stars my life is spent
what tortures these cruel skies invent

roz-e-mahshar ki tawaqqo hai abas
aisi baaton se ho KHatir shad kya

futile is the hope for judgement day
such talk won't raise my spirits any way

gar baha-e-KHun-e-ashiq hai visal
intiqam-e-zahmat-e-jallad kya

but-kada jannat hai chaliye be-hiras
lab pe 'momin' harche baada-baad kya

the idol's house is heaven, come don’t fret
