All cares and concerns of the world are turned away
What is this headiness your very thought brings

हमारे बंद किवाड़ों पे दस्तकें दे कर
शब-ए-फ़िराक़ में वहम-ए-विसाल देता है

Knocking on our closed doors,it brings
The illusion of meeting to our night of separation

उदास आँखों से दरिया का तज़्किरा कर के
ज़माना हम को हमारी मिसाल देता है

Talking of the river to sorrowful eyes
The world gives us our own example

ये कैसा रात में तारों का सिलसिला निकला
जो गर्दिशों में मुक़द्दर भी ढाल देता है

What is this procession of stars tonight
That mould destiny in endless circles

बिछड़ के तुम से यक़ीं हो चला है ये मुझ को
कि इश्क़ लुत्फ़-ए-सज़ा बे-मिसाल देता है

Separated from you, I have come to believe
Love gives joy of punishment beyond compare
