رونے سے اور عشق میں بیباک ہو گئے
دھوئے گئے ہم اتنے کہ بس پاک ہو گئے

in love, bolder I became, once openly I cried
I was washed so thoroughly that I got sanctified

صرف بہائے مے ہوے آلات مے کشی
تھے یہ ہی دو حساب سو یوں پاک ہو گئے

to make payment for my wine, I sold my drinking gear
just these two burdens I had, thus I managed to clear

رسوائے دہر گو ہوئے آوارگی سے تم
بارے طبیعتوں کے تو چالاک ہو گئے

your waywardness was the cause for your notriety
shrewd you did become although, temperamentally

کہتا ہے کون نالۂ بلبل کو بے اثر
پردے میں گل کے لاکھ جگر چاک ہو گئے

who says the plaints of nightingales are to no avail
a million hearts of roses are rent behind the veil

پوچھے ہے کیا وجود و عدم اہل شوق کا
آپ اپنی آگ کے خس و خاشاک ہو گئے

what of being and nothingness of lovers you inquire
they have burnt like leaves and straw in heat of their desire

کرنے گئے تھے اس سے تغافل کا ہم گلہ
کی ایک ہی نگاہ کہ بس خاک ہو گئے

I had gone there to complain about her unconcern
just a glance she cast on me, to ashes did I turn

اس رنگ سے اٹھائی کل اس نے اسدؔ کی نعش
دشمن بھی جس کو دیکھ کے غم ناک ہو گئے

in such a style my coffin, she carried yesterday
seeing which e'en enemies of mine were caused dismay
