خاموش ہو کیوں داد جفا کیوں نہیں دیتے
بسمل ہو تو قاتل کو دعا کیوں نہیں دیتے

why are you silent, why don’t you applaud her cruelty
why don’t you then bless the killer, if injured you be

وحشت کا سبب روزن زنداں تو نہیں ہے
مہر و مہ و انجم کو بجھا کیوں نہیں دیتے

the prison window well may be cause for insanity
why not douse the moon and stars' soft serenity

اک یہ بھی تو انداز علاج غم جاں ہے
اے چارہ گرو درد بڑھا کیوں نہیں دیتے

this too is used as a means to render remedy
healers why don't you increase my pain's intensity

منصف ہو اگر تم تو کب انصاف کرو گے
مجرم ہیں اگر ہم تو سزا کیوں نہیں دیتے

when will you render justice, if, a judge you claim to be
and if a criminal I am, why don’t you punish me

رہزن ہو تو حاضر ہے متاع دل و جاں بھی
رہبر ہو تو منزل کا پتہ کیوں نہیں دیتے

if be a highway robber, heart and life, at your mercy
and if you be a guide, why not, point out the path to me

کیا بیت گئی اب کے فرازؔ اہل چمن پر؟
یاران قفس مجھ کو صدا کیوں نہیں دیتے
