ग़ुंचा-ए-ना-शगुफ़्ता को दूर से मत दिखा कि यूँ

ग़ुंचा-ए-ना-शगुफ़्ता को दूर से मत दिखा कि यूँ
बोसे को पूछता हूँ मैं मुँह से मुझे बता कि यूँ

from afar do not display that unopened bud this way
when I ask you for a kiss, show me with your mouth, "this way"

पुर्सिश-ए-तर्ज़-ए-दिलबरी कीजिए क्या कि बिन कहे
उस के हर एक इशारे से निकले है ये अदा कि यूँ

about her heart-stealing ways, what to ask, as ere she says
her every gesture oozes charm and proclaims " it is this way"

रात के वक़्त मय पिए साथ रक़ीब को लिए
आए वो याँ ख़ुदा करे पर न करे ख़ुदा कि यूँ

she partakes wine eventide, and keeps my rival beside
may Lord make her come to me, but O Lord! no, not this way!

ग़ैर से रात क्या बनी ये जो कहा तो देखिए
सामने आन बैठना और ये देखना कि यूँ

"how was your night with my foe?", when this I sought to know
she came and sat in front of me, then glared as if to say "this way?"

बज़्म में उस के रू-ब-रू क्यूँ न ख़मोश बैठिए
उस की तो ख़ामुशी में भी है यही मुद्दआ कि यूँ

silent why should I not be? face to face in company
even her silence implies her meaning that I stay this way

मैं ने कहा कि बज़्म-ए-नाज़ चाहिए ग़ैर से तिही
सुन के सितम-ज़रीफ़ ने मुझ को उठा दिया कि यूँ

when I said her company, now from strangers should be free
with cruel wit she bid me rise, showed me out saying "this way"

मुझ से कहा जो यार ने जाते हैं होश किस तरह
देख के मेरी बे-ख़ुदी चलने लगी हवा कि यूँ

when my love asked this of me, "show me how your senses flee?"
seeing my stupor wafts of wind stirred to show it was "this way"

कब मुझे कू-ए-यार में रहने की वज़्अ' याद थी
आइना-दार बन गई हैरत-ए-नक़्श-ए-पा कि यूँ

when in my beloved's lane, I ignorant of form remain
bewilderment of footprints show me "you should stay this way"

गर तिरे दिल में हो ख़याल वस्ल में शौक़ का ज़वाल
मौज मुहीत-ए-आब में मारे है दस्त-ओ-पा कि यूँ

if, in your heart, you have this fear- in union love may disappear-
waves in the ocean thrash their limbs to show it'll be "this way"

जो ये कहे कि रेख़्ता क्यूँके हो रश्क-ए-फ़ारसी
गुफ़्ता-ए-'ग़ालिब' एक बार पढ़ के उसे सुना कि यूँ

read them Ghalib's odes just once, and point out to them "this way"
