فریاد کی کوئی لے نہیں ہے

فریاد کی کوئی لے نہیں ہے
نالہ پابند نے نہیں ہے

no tune is needed by a sigh
laments do not on flutes rely

کیوں بوتے ہیں باغباں تونبے
گر باغ گدائے مے نہیں ہے

why gourds do gardeners now plant
if wine, the garden does not want

ہرچند ہر ایک شے میں تو ہے
پر تجھ سی کوئی شے نہیں ہے

although in everything you be
yet there is none who is like thee

ہاں کھائیو مت فریب ہستی
ہرچند کہیں کہ ہے نہیں ہے

by "being" be you not deceived
"is not" however is believed

شادی سے گزر کہ غم نہ ہووے
اردی جو نہ ہو تو دے نہیں ہے

if joy's eschewed, no grief at all
if spring's not there, nor will be fall

کیوں رد قدح کرے ہے زاہد
مے ہے یہ مگس کی قے نہیں ہے

why Priest, does bowl of wine displease
'tis wine, not excrement of bees

ہستی ہے نہ کچھ عدم ہے غالبؔ
آخر تو کیا ہے اے نہیں ہے

if being and nothingness are naught
what is? then tell me O "is not"
