دیکھ تو دل کہ جاں سے اٹھتا ہے

دیکھ تو دل کہ جاں سے اٹھتا ہے
یہ دھواں سا کہاں سے اٹھتا ہے

see if it rises from the heart or from the soul it flows
does anybody know the source from where this smoke arose?

گور کس دل جلے کی ہے یہ فلک
شعلہ اک صبح یاں سے اٹھتا ہے

the sky is the grave of which person burnt in love?
a ball of fire every morn rises there above

خانۂ دل سے زینہار نہ جا
کوئی ایسے مکاں سے اٹھتا ہے

without a reason, do not leave the quarters of the heart
does anyone in such a way from his home depart?

نالہ سر کھینچتا ہے جب میرا
شور اک آسماں سے اٹھتا ہے

when my feelings find their voice in these my plaintive cries
a deafening uproar occurs and resonates the skies

لڑتی ہے اس کی چشم شوخ جہاں
ایک آشوب واں سے اٹھتا ہے

where'er her am'rous glance its mark darts out to find
thereon a storm's unleashed,with chaos close behind

سدھ لے گھر کی بھی شعلۂ آواز
دود کچھ آشیاں سے اٹھتا ہے

be mindful too of your abode, you of the flaming voice
smoke is rising from your nest, take heed ere you rejoice

بیٹھنے کون دے ہے پھر اس کو
جو ترے آستاں سے اٹھتا ہے

who then will let him sit again, at peace how will he be
if someone rises and departs from your company

یوں اٹھے آہ اس گلی سے ہم
جیسے کوئی جہاں سے اٹھتا ہے

in such a manner from her street I had to go, I grieve
from this universe as though someone were to leave

عشق اک میرؔ بھاری پتھر ہے
کب یہ تجھ ناتواں سے اٹھتا ہے

love is a real burden, Miir, it is a heavy stone
how can it be lifted by a weak person alone?
