देख तो दिल कि जाँ से उठता है
ये धुआँ सा कहाँ से उठता है

गोर किस दिलजले की है ये फ़लक
शोला इक सुब्ह याँ से उठता है

the sky is the grave of which person burnt in love?
a ball of fire every morn rises there above

ख़ाना-ए-दिल से ज़ीनहार न जा
कोई ऐसे मकाँ से उठता है

without a reason, do not leave the quarters of the heart
does anyone in such a way from his home depart?

नाला सर खींचता है जब मेरा
शोर इक आसमाँ से उठता है

when my feelings find their voice in these my plaintive cries
a deafening uproar occurs and resonates the skies

लड़ती है उस की चश्म-ए-शोख़ जहाँ
एक आशोब वाँ से उठता है

where'er her am'rous glance its mark darts out to find
thereon a storm's unleashed,with chaos close behind

सुध ले घर की भी शोला-ए-आवाज़
दूद कुछ आशियाँ से उठता है

be mindful too of your abode, you of the flaming voice
smoke is rising from your nest, take heed ere you rejoice

बैठने कौन दे है फिर उस को
जो तिरे आस्ताँ से उठता है

who then will let him sit again, at peace how will he be
if someone rises and departs from your company

यूँ उठे आह उस गली से हम
जैसे कोई जहाँ से उठता है

in such a manner from her street I had to go, I grieve
from this universe as though someone were to leave

इश्क़ इक 'मीर' भारी पत्थर है
कब ये तुझ ना-तवाँ से उठता है

love is a real burden, Miir, it is a heavy stone
how can it be lifted by a weak person alone?
