نکل کر دیر و کعبہ سے اگر ملتا نہ مے خانہ
تو ٹھکرائے ہوئے انساں خدا جانے کہاں جاتے

if on leaving temple,mosque no tavern were be found
what refuge would outcasts find? this only God would know

تمہاری بے رخی نے لاج رکھ لی بادہ خانے کی
تم آنکھوں سے پلا دیتے تو پیمانے کہاں جاتے

your indifference has managed to preserve the tavern's name
had we feasted from your eyes, what then would wine bestow?

چلو اچھا ہوا کام آ گئی دیوانگی اپنی
وگرنہ ہم زمانے بھر کو سمجھانے کہاں جاتے

قتیلؔ اپنا مقدر غم سے بیگانہ اگر ہوتا
تو پھر اپنے پرائے ہم سے پہچانے کہاں جاتے
