بارے آرام سے ہیں اہل جفا میرے بعد

after me, beauty was spared the strain of coquetry
in great comfort are these cruel damsels after me

منصب شیفتگی کے کوئی قابل نہ رہا
ہوئی معزولی انداز و ادا میرے بعد

of rank, deserving none remains amongst those lovelorn
grace and airs are all deposed, for now that I am gone

شمع بجھتی ہے تو اس میں سے دھواں اٹھتا ہے
شعلۂ عشق سیہ پوش ہوا میرے بعد

from a candle extinguished dark smoke is seen to rise
the flame of love was dressed in black after my demise

خوں ہے دل خاک میں احوال بتاں پر یعنی
ان کے ناخن ہوئے محتاج حنا میرے بعد

at the beauties' sorry plight, my heart, in earth, does bleed
after I have gone, their nails, from henna favours need

در خور عرض نہیں جوہر بیداد کو جا
نگۂ ناز ہے سرمے سے خفا میرے بعد

for her cruelty's address there is no worthy place
she, on my death, collyrium does from her eyes erase

ہے جنوں اہل جنوں کے لیے آغوش وداع
چاک ہوتا ہے گریباں سے جدا میرے بعد

lunacy now bids adieu to love-crazed all around,
after me the tear's no more, then in the collar found

کون ہوتا ہے حریف مے مرد افگن عشق
ہے مکرر لب ساقی پہ صلا میرے بعد

"the stupefying wine of love, does anyone desire?"
after me, repeatedly, she calls out to inquire

غم سے مرتا ہوں کہ اتنا نہیں دنیا میں کوئی
کہ کرے تعزیت مہر و وفا میرے بعد

I die of grief as in this world there isn't even one
who will mourn for faith and friendship when my life in done

آئے ہے بیکسی عشق پہ رونا غالبؔ
کس کے گھر جائے گا سیلاب بلا میرے بعد

for this helplessness of love, now tears I do shed
whose home will this flood inundate, after I am dead

تھی نگہ میری نہاں خانۂ دل کی نقاب
بے خطر جیتے ہیں ارباب ریا میرے بعد

تھا میں گلدستۂ احباب کی بندش کی گیاہ
متفرق ہوئے میرے رفقا میرے بعد
