who can depend on what you say?
who will wait each every day?

ذکر مہر و وفا تو ہم کرتے
پر تمہیں شرمسار کون کرے

for faith and kindness I would ask
but you would have been shamed that way

ہو جو اس چشم مست سے بے خود
پھر اسے ہوشیار کون کرے

on those heady eyes who's drunk
his drunkenness, who can allay?

تم تو ہو جان اک زمانے کی
جان تم پر نثار کون کرے

you are the life of all this world
for you, my life how can I lay?

آفت روزگار جب تم ہو
شکوۂ روزگار کون کرے

you cause mischief in this world
who can complain of life then say

اپنی تسبیح رہنے دے زاہد
دانہ دانہ شمار کون کرے

let your rosary be O priest
bead by bead, who will assay?

ہجر میں زہر کھا کے مر جاؤں
موت کا انتظار کون کرے

On parting, poisoned I will die
for who would wait for death to slay?

آنکھ ہے ترک زلف ہے صیاد
دیکھیں دل کا شکار کون کرے

eyes are arrows, tresses snares
which will make my heart their prey?

وعدہ کرتے نہیں یہ کہتے ہیں
تجھ کو امیدوار کون کرے

she doesn't promise, says to me
how, hopeful, can I let you stay?

داغؔ کی شکل دیکھ کر بولے
ایسی صورت کو پیار کون کرے
