दिल-बस्तगी सी है किसी ज़ुल्फ़-ए-दोता के साथ
पाला पड़ा है हम को ख़ुदा किस बला के साथ
enmeshed with braided tresses my heart appears to be
tell me O Lord I am now faced with what calamity
कब तक निभाइए बुत-ए-ना-आश्ना के साथ
कीजे वफ़ा कहाँ तलक उस बेवफ़ा के साथ
how long should I care for her who does not care for me
how far should I be faithful when she lacks fidelity
याद-ए-हवा-ए-यार ने क्या क्या न गुल खिलाए
आई चमन से निकहत-ए-गुल जब सबा के साथ
what poignant passion was inflamed, then by her memories
when the fragrance of the flower came floating on the breeze
माँगा करेंगे अब से दुआ हिज्र-ए-यार की
आख़िर तो दुश्मनी है असर को दुआ के साथ
to be parted from my dearest I will pray now hence
as after all prayers bear enmity with consequence
है किस का इंतिज़ार कि ख़्वाब-ए-अदम से भी
हर बार चौंक पड़ते हैं आवाज़-ए-पा के साथ
who is it pray, whom I await even in death's embrace
that startles me each time I hear the sound of any pace
या रब विसाल-ए-यार में क्यूँकर हो ज़िंदगी
निकली ही जान जाती है हर हर अदा के साथ
O Lord! in meetings with my lover how do I survive
her grace and charm and loveliness, don't let me stay alive
अल्लाह रे सोज़-ए-आतश-ए-ग़म बाद-ए-मर्ग भी
उठते हैं मेरी ख़ाक से शोले हवा के साथ
how strong does sorrow's fire burn, O Lord, despite my death
new flames in my ashes ignite, with every zephyr's breath
सौ ज़िंदगी निसार करूँ ऐसी मौत पर
यूँ रोए ज़ार ज़ार तू अहल-ए-अज़ा के साथ
A hundred lifetimes I'd forsake and such a death receive
if you sit weeping copiously among the rest who grieve
हर दम अरक़ अरक़ निगह-ए-बे-हिजाब है
किस ने निगाह-ए-गर्म से देखा हया के साथ
my eyes, uncovered, are now bathed all the time in sweat
who has cast a glance so coy yet warm and passionate
मरने के बाद भी वही आवारगी रही
अफ़्सोस जाँ गई नफ़स-ए-ना-रसा के साथ
this wanderlust remained the same, even after death
alas my life too went along with my ill-fated breath
दस्त-ए-जुनूँ ने मेरा गरेबाँ समझ लिया
उलझा है उन से शोख़ के बंद-ए-क़बा के साथ
the hand of my insanity thought it was my cape
and got entangled by mistake, with sashes of her drape
आते ही तेरे चल दिए सब वर्ना यास का
कैसा हुजूम था दिल-ए-हसरत-फ़ज़ा के साथ
as soon as you arrived the crowds of despair did depart
else what a throng surrounded the yearnings of my heart
मैं कीने से भी ख़ुश हूँ कि सब ये तो कहते हैं
उस फ़ित्नागर को लाग है इस मुब्तिला के साथ
I'm happy e'en with cruelty, as all do now agree
"the devastating beauty loves a distressed man like me"
अल्लाह री गुमरही बुत ओ बुत-ख़ाना छोड़ कर
'मोमिन' चला है काबे को इक पारसा के साथ
O Lord!! momin's lost his way, from idols does he flee
and towards the mosque proceeds, in pious company
'मोमिन' वही ग़ज़ल पढ़ो शब जिस से बज़्म में
आती थी लब पे जान ज़ह-ओ-हब्बज़ा के साथ
