in love I could not weep fearing loss of dignity
else for my not crying what reason could there be

you had said that weeping would alter no one's fate

jin ko majburi-e-haalat ne rone na diya

whom cruel compulsions from crying did prevent

on meeting you I wanted to cry and cry and cry
but due to lack of time this urge I couldn't satisfy

hum ko har roz ke sadmat ne rone na diya

if it were but for a day or two I would have cried
but due to daily suffering this too was thus denied
