एजाज़-ए-जाँ-दही है हमारे कलाम को

एजाज़-ए-जाँ-दही है हमारे कलाम को
ज़िंदा किया है हम ने मसीहा के नाम को

life-bestowing miracles my poetry can claim
glory I have now restored to the Messiah's name

लिक्खो सलाम ग़ैर के ख़त में ग़ुलाम को
बंदे का बस सलाम है ऐसे सलाम को

in his rival's message greetings to your slave you pen
your slave can only salute such a salutation then

अब शोर है मिसाल जो दी उस ख़िराम को
यूँ कौन जानता था क़यामत के नाम को

a hue ensues then when I use your gait as similie
of doomsday, say, how else aware could anybody be

आता है बहर-ए-क़त्ल वो दौर ऐ हुजूम-ए-यास
घबरा न जाए देख कहीं अज़दहाम को

she comes to slay me at a time, when miseries surround
I hope she is not daunted by this mob that’s all around

गो आप ने जवाब बुरा ही दिया वले
मुझ से बयाँ न कीजे अदू के पयाम को

though you may have replied to him as rudely as you claim
don't tell me what was in my rival's message, just the same

याँ वस्ल है तलाफ़ी-ए-हिज्राँ में ऐ फ़लक
क्यूँ सोचता है ताज़ा सितम इंतिक़ाम को

here, Heavens, union's recompense for parting's torment
then for revenge, new tortures, why do you invent

तेरे समंद-ए-नाज़ की बेजा शरारतें
करते हैं आग नाला-ए-अँदेशा-काम को

गिर्ये पे मेरे ज़िंदा-दिलो हँसते क्या हो आह
रोता हूँ अपने मैं दिल-ए-जन्नत-मक़ाम को

सह सह के ना-दुरुस्त तिरी ख़ू बिगाड़ दी
हम ने ख़राब आप किया अपने काम को

Iniquity I endured, and spoilt your temperament
I thereby managed to defeat what was my own intent

उस से जला के ग़ैर को उम्मीद-ए-पुख़्तगी
लग जाए आग दिल के ख़यालात-ए-ख़ाम को

बख़्त-ए-सपीद आईना-दारी करे तो मैं
दिखलाऊँ दिल के जौर उस आईना-फ़ाम को

जब तू चले जनाज़ा-ए-आशिक़ के साथ साथ
फिर कौन वारिसों के सुने इज़्न-ए-आम को

if you were to walk side by side with your lover's hearse
who would pay attention to the heir's leave to disperse

शायद कि दिन फिरे हैं किसी तीरा-रोज़ के
अब ग़ैर उस गली में नहीं फिरते शाम को

maybe in his dark days someone's fortunes now reverse
no longer, evening time, do rivals in her street traverse

मुद्दत से नाम सुनते थे 'मोमिन' का बारे आज
देखा भी हम ने उस शोअरा के इमाम को

for ages we have heard the name of momin, finally
the leader of all poets now we too have got to see
